Unser Lied für Liverpool chose Lord Of The Lost for Germany

This week, Building Bridges welcomes a very special guest. Class Grenayde, who has been the bassist of Lord Of The Lost for more than 15 years, spoke to Sebi, Jan and Dave about the band’s Eurovision application, Unser Lied für Liverpool, their tour, Iron Maiden and of course the honour and pressure to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.

“The Eurovision fans in general really fit to what we are, I think. Since we were always very welcoming to all kinds of people, and also inviting people to heavy [metal] music that weren’t there before.”

– Class Grenayde

In March of 2023 we had the pleasure to chat with Class Grenayde – bassist for Lord Of The Lost since 2008!

He took us back to the night the band trimphed in the German national final, how they had been dealing with their new popularity (on both sides of the political spectrum), their tour with Iron Maiden, and their expectations for Liverpool.

Class spoke somewhat prophetically when at the end of the interview he said:

“The only thing we expect […] is the last place.”

– Class Grenayde

While there was a tinge of humor in what Class said back then, we immediately downplayed it, with Dave going as far as to tell him, “There’s no last place in your future.” Proving that with Eurovision, one truly never knows what will happen.

Sadly, Blood & Glitter wound up in last place in the Grand Final in Liverpool. This marked Germany’s second last place in a row, and fourth since 2015.
