50 years (and counting) of Tu te reconnaîtras

Building Bridges welcomes the first Eurovision winner to make it onto the podcast. Anne-Marie David has joined Sebi, Jan and Dave to share some funny anecdotes about her Eurovision experiences in 1973 and 1979, talk about the 50 year anniversary of her iconic title “Tu te reconnaîtras” and reveal more details about Luxembourg’s long awaited return to the Eurovision Song Contest.

In June, we had the pleasure and honour of welcoming Anne-Marie David to our podcast. She of course won Eurovision for Luxembourg when it was held in Luxembourg in 1973. That makes her the first winner we’ve chatted with on the pod!

We invited her on the podcast to ask her about Luxembourg’s return — and she had a lot to say! While she acknowledges that Eurovision has changed so much over the years, she is truly delighted at the Grand Duchy’s return to Malmö in 2024.

“I just thought one thing — finally! We have missed this country for a long, long, long time.”

– Anne-Marie David

We also revisited that magical night in 1973, discussed her favourite Eurovision songs over the years, and asked her what she thought about La Zarra’s performance in Liverpool!

“Still, amongst all the songs I’ve heard now, my favourite song is Conchita Wurst. It is the most fantastic written song, and she was — and she is still — extraordinary, magical! She really has something inside. […] You feel it when she sings.”

– Anne-Marie David

Anne-Marie David’s “Tu te reconnaîtras” secured a back-to-back victory for Luxembourg on home soil in 1973. She beat the Spanish entry “Eres tú” by just 4 points.
