Say May-be-be!

Our latest guest in the Building Bridges studio is none other than the iconic Serhat! We caught up with him just before his departure to Amsterdam for Het Grote Songfestivalfeest.

In this episode, we build a bridge to Istanbul, Turkey where we meet Serhat, two-time representative of San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Serhat spoke very candidly about what the Eurovision community means to him, even though he represented tiny San Marino twice, and not his home nation of Turkey.

He takes us back to the moment in Tel Aviv when he qualified San Marino for just its second Grand Final (at the time), why he loves singing in so many different languages, and what he thinks of the moniker the ‘Eurovision dentist‘!

Dave asked Serhat about when we might expect to see him back at Eurovision, and this was his answer:

“Maybe I will come back to Eurovision as a composer, songwriter, that is possible. But as a singer, it’s twice — it’s enough. […] Maybe there can be some surprises, maybe not. I don’t want to say anything exactly. […] Time will show us, but I’m still close to Eurovision in 2024.”

Serhat’s return to the Eurovision stage in 2019 was quite successful — he got 10 points in the televote from Albania, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, giving him enough points to secure San Marino’s best result in the country’s history at Eurovision!
