Luxembourg are back to Eurovision with a bang! After a 31 year absence, the Grand Duchy is back, and have chosen the country’s 38th Eurovision act.
RTL gave us a slick live selection show, the Luxembourg Song Contest, and it brought back a lot of nostalgia at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette!
The inaugural star-studded LSC brought back acts like Vicky Leandros, Anne-Marie David, and invited guests including former Eurovision winners including Ruslana, Katrina, Charlotte Perrelli and Alexander Rybak to keep viewers entertained when the 8 artists in the competition were not performing.
Désirée Nosbusch was back to hosting duties on a Eurovision stage for the first time since she hosted ESC in 1984, and she wowed us to some to code switching between English, French, German, and Luxembourgish, just as she did 40 years ago!
After one round of voting, three of the eight acts progressed to a Superfinal: Tali, Krick, and Joel Marques. Finally after a final round of voting from international juries and the audience vote, Tali was awarded the ticket to Malmö with her bilingual song Fighter!
A lot has changed at the Eurovision Song Contest in the last 31 years. The biggest change for Luxembourg will be competing in its first ever Semi Final.
Here is what the hosts of Building Bridges think of Fighter — Luxembourg’s song for Eurovision 2024:
Jan: ★★★★☆
The poignant lyrics effortlessly switch between languages, weaving a narrative that transcends borders and resonates universally. The powerful vocals, adorned with raw passion, create an emotional rollercoaster that leaves an indelible mark on the listener’s heart.
Sebi: ★★★★☆
My favorite of the national final. It’s the perfect mix of a modern beat, a professional production and the French ‘charme’ that has guaranteed Luxembourg many great results in the 20th century! What an amazing comeback!
Dave: ★★★★☆
I’ve been looking forward to the LSC for some time. There’s something about ‘Fighter’ that makes me think it will pop on stage in Malmö in May. Tali has great stage presence and is so charismatic and I think she can get Luxembourg to the Grand Final!
