One of Eurovision’s smallest and perhaps underrated nations has made its choice for Malmö!
Twelve acts competed to become Malta’s 36th Eurovision entry. They performed in the following order:
- Janvil – Man (29 points) 8th place
- Haley Azzopardi – Tell Me That It’s Over (7 points) 12th place
- Erbà – Sirena (56 points) 4th place
- Nathan – Ghost (23 points) 10th place
- Lisa Gauci – Breathe (39 points) 6th place
- Sarah Bonnici – Loop (102 points) 1st place
- Greta Tude – Topic (Bla Bla) (32 points) 7th place
- Miriana Conte – Venom (25 points) 9th place
- Ryan Hili – Karma (71 points) 3rd place
- Gail Attard – Wild Card (20 points) 11th place
- Denise Mercieca – Mara (39 points) 5th place
- Matt Blxck – Banana (80 points) 2nd place
After the juries voted, it was Sarah Bonnici in the lead with 79 points, with Ryan Hili and Matt Blxck close behind with 54 and 51 points, respectively. At the end of the voting, Sarah just needed 2 points from the public to pass Matt Blxck, and she got 23 for the win!
In addition to the ticket to Malmö, awards were given out for the “Best Music Video” (Greta Tude) and “Best New Talent” (Lisa Gauci)!
Here is what the hosts of Building Bridges think of Loop — Malta’s song for Eurovision 2024:
Jan: ★★★☆☆
Malta has chosen a contagiously catchy song for Malmö! I will definitely add this to my playlist. Wishing them all the best for the semi-final!
Sebi: ★★★☆☆
An okay pop song. Nothing special or new but one of the better options in the Maltese selection. Not a sure qualifier but at least Malta is taking it seriously!
Dave: ★★★☆☆
Sarah definitely gave it her all. I couldn’t believe it when they flipped her 360º! While it wasn’t the most vocally strong performance, it was very entertaining, and I think she’ll show up in Malmö with an amazing package, and a real chance to get Malta back in the Grand Final!
