In a matter of days, Finland’s Eurovision selection UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu) will take place at Nokia Arena in Tampere. Our co-host Sebi will be at the big show on Saturday, 10th February to keep our socials up to date with the latest from Finland!
Our third UMK interview built a bridge not only to Finland, but to Estonia as well! The duo of Mikael Gabriel & nublu have entered UMK with the song Vox Populi, a Latin title meaning ‘voice of the people.’
The two met online and have worked together before, first collaborating on Universum back in 2020. Nublu is an Estonian rapper and Mikael is a Finnish rapper, whose mother is Estonian. Given their ties to Estonia, we asked them why they chose to enter UMK, and not Eesti Laul:
“UMK was the first idea, and we actually never went so far that we would have thought that if we don’t get to UMK or something then we need to get to Eesti Laul. As an event, it’s just incredible, everything that they’ve done, the organization and everything. Yeah, I had no doubt about which contest to participate in.”

During our chat, the guys also explained why they chose to mix Finnish and Estonian lyrics in Vox Populi, what we might see on stage at UMK, and listed some surprising picks as their favourite Eurovision songs of all time!
Based on their comments from our interview, we can expect a lot of energy and a lot of the unexpected on stage in Tampere – we look forward to seeing it and wish them the best of luck on Saturday!
