After five evenings and about 30 hours of television, the 74th Festival di Sanremo finally came to an end. We were treated to 30 songs representing the best in Italian contemporary music, spanning almost every genre of popular music.

Update – 11.02.2024 – 14:45 CET

Moments ago it was officially announced that Angelina Mango will represent Italy at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest

Host and director Amadeus, in his fifth and final year in this role, treated viewers to a classy and professional show, certainly by Italian standards!

The Top 5 songs went to a ‘Superfinal’ where all the votes were reset, and the final results were:

  • Angelina Mango – La noia (1st place) 40.3%
  • Geolier – I p’ me, tu p’ te (2nd place) 25.2%
  • Annalisa – Sinceramente (3rd place) 17.1 %
  • Ghali – Casa mia (4th place) 10.5%
  • Irama – Tu no (5th place) 6.9%

Angelina dedicated the performance to her father Pino Mango, who passed away in 2014 when she was just 13. He was a singer-songwriter himself who competed at Sanremo several times.

Of note, her participation in Eurovision breaks the streak of all male performers, going back to 2017. Angelina is the first woman to win Sanremo in a decade – since Arisa won in 2014!

Here is what the hosts of Building Bridges think of La noia — Italy’s song for Eurovision 2024:

Jan: ★★★★★

“Captivating and infectious, ‘La noia’ is a delightful fusion of Italian flair and pop sensibility with some Caribbean vibes thrown in. With its irresistible melody and catchy chorus, it transports you to the vibrant streets of Italy. Buonissima!

Sebi: ★★★★★

Italy has given us something quintessentially Italian again. It’s pop in their own way, and Angelina will bring the party to Malmö in May!

Dave: ★★★★★

The song just makes you want to stop whatever you’re doing and get up for a dance! It’s so catchy and easy to sing along to. I think she’ll blow the roof off Malmö Arena and I can’t wait to see how she’ll stage this on the big stage! Ottima scelta, l’Italia!
