In a thrilling conclusion to Moldova’s Etapa Națională 2024, Natalia Barbu goes out as the winner and the Moldavian entrant at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, with her song “In The Middle”.
In a field of 11 contenders, Natalia’s performance of In the Middle impressed both, televoting audiences and the juries. She finished first with the juries and second with the televoters, therefore winning the tie-breaker against the runner-up Valeria Pasha. With her powerful vocals and stage presence, she left no doubt about her ability to shine on the international stage once again.
Natalie Barbu, no stranger to Eurovision, previously amazed audiences in 2007 with her performance of Fight, securing an impressive top 10 results for Moldova.
Now, with “In the Middle,” she aims to build on that success and make her mark once more. “In the Middle” is a testament to her artistry and versatility, blending elements of rock and pop into a catchy and memorable tune.
With the spotlight now firmly on Malmö, all eyes will be on Natalia Barbu as she prepares to take center stage and represent Moldova with pride.
Here is what our podcast hosts think of Moldova’s entry for Malmö:
Jan: ★★★★☆
Natalia is serving what Eurovision audience would expect from her – and I think she is back at the contest, with, rightfully, right song. I wish her nothing but good luck! Definite qualifier.
Sebi: ★★★☆☆
Right from the start, I knew that this was probably going to win Etapa națională. It’s very catchy and somewhat mysterious. Plus, I expect a sick staging in Malmö, as this is Moldova’s biggest strength. However, it does not have THE televote appeal of the last few Moldavian entries.
Dave: ★☆☆☆☆
I’m worried about Moldova this year. All the hype for Natalia’s song as being the best in Etapa națională this year, and I find it very forgettable. That said, it was by far the best performance in tonight’s show. This will need a lot of work before it gets to Malmö, otherwise I fear it will be a quick exit at Eurovision.
