The United Kingdom has selected singer, songwriter and actor Olly Alexander as their representative for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.
Olly was announced as the British representative back in December 2023. In a recent interview with UK Eurovision commentator Graham Norton, he had this to say about representing his country:
“I feel kind of honoured. I’m literally gonna be flying the flag for the UK. “It just feels really special, and now I’ll be part of this legacy of all these other artists that have done it. I think it’s risky, that’s also why it’s a bit exciting. It’s literally a competition where everyone is there to pull, like, every little detail apart, and judge you against all the other performances. So it’s just totally unique in that aspect, it’s not something that you would kind of necessarily face as an artist. But I think that’s really fun, and I quite like that element of risk.”

A few weeks ago, he released a teaser of his Eurovision song Dizzy, which is now finally available in full:
Here is what we think about the UK entry for Malmö:
Jan: ★★★★★
Olly promised a bop from the very beginning and I love in which direction this is going. I’m a pop kid and will always celebrate it. Love it!
Sebi: ★☆☆☆☆
This song is the definition of mid. While it is well produced, there is nothing that makes it stand out from the other pop songs in the competition so far. The only thing that can prevent this from a bad result are his loyal fans and an amazing staging.
Dave: ★★☆☆☆
When I think of Olly, I think of ‘Kings’. I admit my bias, but I was really hoping his big ESC début would offer something bigger and better. I don’t feel that ‘Dizzy’ is anywhere near the quality of ‘Kings’. As I listen, I’m expecting it to elevate or go somewhere, and it never does, so I’m a little let down. It’s an alright track none the less, and with some slick staging, I think this might not languish at the bottom of the scoreboard in May.
