Today, the Netherlands premiered its Eurovision entry “Europapa”, which will be performed by Joost Klein. He’s all set to wow audiences in Malmö, later this May, with his crazy song.

Joost was chosen out of more than 600 people who wanted to represent the Netherlands. The judges liked his song the most because they thought it could be a big hit across Europe.

When Joost found out he’d be representing the Netherlands, he couldn’t contain his joy:

Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true. I used to watch it together with my parents, glued to the screen, year after year. It’s an honor to represent the Netherlands, and I’m committed to giving my all for the best possible outcome.

“Europapa” is Joost’s latest creation, produced by Tantu Beats & Vieze Asbak and written by Joost and Donnie. The video for the song was choreographed by Indy Van Cauwenberg.

Here is what we think about the Dutch entry for Malmö:

Jan: ★★☆☆☆

Europapa tries to get us back into ‘90s, but I have a feeling that instead of listening to the Eurovision song I have a feeling that I’m listening to a game soundtrack. Maybe he will improve on the Malmö stage.

Sebi: ★★★☆☆

I somehow expected more from Joost. He has made the charts here and is knwon for his party bangers. While this is certainly memorable, it’s not quite the huge party anthem, I expected him to bring to Malmö. Still, it will have its fans and likely get enough televotes to make it through the semis.

Dave: ★★☆☆☆

If Joost is supposed to be the reincarnation of Käärijä, I fail to see it. Joost is his own character and parodies in a way we haven’t seen yet this national final season. The addition of English, German, and Italian was a nice touch, though. I do wonder what this will look like live, will Joost keep us entertained for 3 minutes, or will he take the Netherlands back to the comedy stylings of ‘Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie)’?
