Moments ago, RÚV confirmed that Hera Björk will represent Iceland at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. This announcement comes after Hera’s triumphant victory in Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin competition with her song Scared of Heights.

Hera clinched the Söngvakeppnin 2024 title with her incredible performance of Scared of Heights, which earned her the opportunity to represent Iceland on the grand Eurovision stage.

We chatted with Hera days before her performance at Söngvakeppnin 2024.

Despite Hera’s victory, controversies emerged surrounding the voting process. According to RÚV, issues arose with the use of the voting app – RÚV Stjörnur – which experienced technical glitches affecting the outcome. However, despite these challenges, RÚV has confirmed Hera’s victory.

RÚV’s Decision to Participate in Eurovision
Despite initial deliberations regarding Iceland’s participation in Eurovision following the controversies, RÚV ultimately decided to stand by Hera and send her to compete in Malmö.

Stefán Eiríksson, the radio director at RÚV, expressed solidarity with other Nordic countries participating in the event, reaffirming Iceland’s commitment to Eurovision. This effectively ends Bashar Murad’s crusade to have the voting overturned so that he could represent Iceland at Eurovision.

Preparations are now underway for Hera’s Eurovision journey, with rehearsals scheduled to commence in April. Iceland eagerly anticipates Hera’s performance on 7th May, as she takes the stage to showcase her musical prowess and represent her country for the second time.
