It’s been a busy ten weeks in the world of Eurovision, and the national final season ended with the bookies’ favs winning in two shows on Saturday night; a slick finalé of Melfest in Sweden, and a long and drawn-out end to Festival da Canção in Portugal.

Making things hectic was the news coming in (as we were recording) that the EBU will change the voting rules for Eurovision 2024 and the format of the Semi Finals. They even teased us with the hint that more big news will be dropped soon. You can read more details about these changes here.

As of publishing, 35 of the 37 songs for Eurovision 2024 are now available, only Ladaniva’s song for Armenia and Fahree’s entry for Azerbaijan are missing.

🇦🇺 Australia

The week started with the internally selected release of Australia’s Eurovision 2024 entry. There were a lot of hype and rumours surrounding this, as SBS had done quite a good job about keeping this a state secret! In the end, it was 2019 Australia Decides runners up Electric Fields who received the ticket to Malmö with One Milkali (One Blood)!

🇬🇷 Greece

The next day, it was Greece’s turn to release their internally selected song ZARI (Ζάρι) by Marina Satti!

🇸🇪 Sweden

After six weeks and a tour around Sweden, it was the twins from Norway, Marcus & Martinus who dominated the competition at Melodifestivalen 2024. Their song Unforgettable finished a full 73 points ahead of Que Sera by Media in second place.

🇵🇹 Portugal

Once Melfest came to an end, it was time to make a coffee and switch over to RTP for the Grand Final of Festival da Canção 2024. There was no huge surprise here with Iolanda winning the jury vote and coming second in the televote, she easily secured the win with Grito!

🇬🇪 Georgia

After announcing Nutsa Buzaladze as the Georgian representative back in January, it’s been a long two months waiting for her song. On Sunday, Firefighter was released at long last!

🇮🇱 Israel

On Sunday we also saw the release of Hurricane performed by Eden Golan.

🇮🇸 Iceland

Who would have thought tiny Iceland would bring all the drama to Eurovision this year?! Nine tense days passed since Hera Björk won Söngvakeppnin. On Monday, broadcaster RÚV finally confirmed that Iceland will participate in Malmö after all with Scared of Heights.
