Just a few moments ago, the European Broadcast Union announced, that the city of Basel will organize the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.
Ahead of the host city announcement, many fans of the contest have expressed their wish to host the show in Basel, due to its unique location. While it is Switzerland’s third most populated city, Basel is located at the crossroads of three countries – Switzerland, France and Germany – making it an easily accesible host city for neighboring countries.
The venue for the three big live-shows will be the St. Jakobshalle, located in the south-eastern edge of the city, with a capacity of 12,500 live guests. Fans can get to the arena on public transit in about 20-30 minutes from the centre of Basel. Even Zürich’s main train station is under 90 minutes by train from the Eurovision arena!
If you’re coming from further away, Basel’s Airport (EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg) (MLH) is surprisingly well connected. While you won’t find any flights landing from overseas (sorry Dave!), you can catch direct flights here from many cities across Europe, including Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Oslo, Skopje, Vienna and Zagreb! Our friends down under can even catch a flight to Dubai and continue to MLH on flydubai!
In our most recent episode, we reacted to the host city announcement and expressed our wishes for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
Switzerland won the right to host the 69th Eurovision Song Contest after Nemo’s ground-breaking victory in Malmö with “The Code”.
