Some breaking news this Thursday: the European Broadcasting Union has grated Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS an extension to allow time for the Dutch Eurovision team to decide on participating in 2025.
The deadline for countries to officially notify the EBU of their intentions to participate in Eurovision is 15th September (Sunday).
According to Amsterdam daily newspaper Het Parool, AVROTROS now has until Friday 1st November to make its final decision about a participation in 2025.
The full statement from AVROTROS reads:
With a visit by EBU’s Director of Media Jean Philip De Tender to AVROTROS, the dialogue with the EBU has started. In order to give this constructive dialogue a change of success, AVROTROS has requested a postponement until 1 November, for which we are grateful.
Should the Netherlands not compete in 2025, it would be the first Eurovision since 2002 without a Dutch delegation. The country has competed in 64 of the 68 previous editions.
As this is breaking news, we will keep you informed of any further developments.
