Today, the Armenian broadcaster AMPTV announced the return of the Armenian national final Depi Evratesil for 2025. This national final was used to select the Armenian artist for Eurovision in 2017, as well as their song and artist in 2018.
Surprisingly, Depi Evratesil is now coming back for its third season, to select the Armenian act for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
This announcement has also confirmed Armenia’s participation in Basel, meaning that all 37 countries which took place in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö will officialy compete in Basel as well.
With the return of Montenegro, this gives us a list of 38 competing countries so far. Unless there is a surprise announcement from a former participating country, 38 will likely be the final number of countries in Basel. This would make it the first ever Eurovision Song Contest with 38 participating countries.
In recent years, Armenia has shown a remarkable appearance in the Eurovision Song Contest, with their 2022 entry “Snap” becoming a worldwide hit and Ladaniva’s “Jako” finishing in 8th place, earning Armenia one of its best Eurovision results.
Do you think the return of Depi Evratesil is a smart decision by AMPTV? Which artists would you like to see compete? Let us know your thoughts in the comments and on our social media profiles! @buildingbridgespod
