Spare a thought for Latvia. After joining Eurovision, the Baltic country’s early success has given way to some hard luck. Twice since 2009, Latvia has endured six-year long gaps between appearances in the Grand Final.
Latvia’s luck turned in Malmö when Dons was able to get Latvia back to the Grand Final. Hoping to capitalize on that success, Latvian broadcaster LTV is organizing Supernova 2025 to choose the country’s Eurovision artist for Basel.
Sebi and Dave recently chatted with Adelina Jurevica who was chosen as one of the 20 artists for Supernova 2025. Born and raised in Latvia, Adelina’s journey as an artist has taken her across the United States, and back to London where she is now based.
Now her sights are set on Latvia this coming February, as she hopes to score the nation’s ticket to Eurovision 2025 with her song Electric Love!
Adelina is finding her way back into the music industry after taking some time off to have a child. When it comes to balancing her artistic and motherly duties, she had this insight:
“It’s a really drastic change in your life. You know, once you become a parent, your whole world — especially if you trying to be a good parent — your whole world really changes, and you want to be there for your child. But at the same time, you also need to be there for yourself. Because I feel like I’ve also been having this discussion with my mum, that I feel like my generation are those, you know, cycle breakers. We don’t want to be. We really want to find that balance between not only doing things for your children, but also making sure that you are okay. I feel like the previous generation don’t really know that balance.”

The timing is now right for Adelina to make her Supernova début. Before the full version of Electric Love was released, she dropped a short snippet as a way to excite her fans:
“That’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve done, because it does have these influences of mine that I grew up on, which is 80s, soulful. I was very much inspired by Michael Jackson, especially for this record. I wanted to bring that nostalgic kind of disco feeling, yeah, and I feel like when people have those little snippets, it can excite them!”

When it comes to what we’ll see on stage at Supernova, Adelina has a clear vision in her mind that will match the vibe of Electric Love perfectly:
“It’s going to be very futuristic. I am all about that type of vibe these days. Like, I really love the idea of futurism, especially when it’s like a retro futurism, as you know, when we think about those futuristic sounds from the 80s, that type of influence, and also a lot of soulfulness as far as the sound. But yeah, I feel like, especially in era of the AI, everything super digital, this is what I’m sort of also been fascinated about. And I feel like that’s still going to be sort of the theme of the performance.”

Adelina will perform Electric Love live at the Supernova Semi Final on Saturday, 1st February on LTV!
