The Luxembourg Song Contest returns on 25ᵗʰ January 2025 at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette, showcasing the nation’s top musical talent.
Broadcast live on RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg, the event will feature diverse musical styles, stunning stage designs, advanced lighting, and exceptional sound engineering.
It’s a new cultural highlight for Luxembourg, blending performances by emerging and established artists with appearances from special guests from Eurovisions past, promising an unforgettable show for Eurofans.
With the big show just weeks away, Jan and Dave had a chat with RTL’s Head of Eurovision, David Gloesener, to find out more about the return of LSC!
To start things off, David explained how the LSC came to be, and how its success in 2024 led to a second edition for 2025:
“We were very happy with what happened this year with Luxembourg Song Contest here because we immediately felt that the country went with us on that journey and that was why we decided to do a national final because as we were not at Eurovision for more than 30 years, it was very important for us to tell the people what will happen to take them with on the journey, and to give them the opportunity to help to choose the candidate that will represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision. We had very good ratings for the LSC, we had lots of clicks on our websites, the press was very active – we had lots of press representatives here at the LSC. So we immediately felt that the country was with us on that journey and even a part of Europe and the world that was happy that Luxembourg came back to Eurovision.”

Should one of the seven LSC acts go on to win ESC in Basel, David has high hopes that the Contest can be staged in Luxembourg for a sixth time:
“Well, as you know, it’s a government founded project, so the whole Eurovision project is paid in fact by the Luxembourgish government. And we are in discussions with them, and of course, we have some ideas what we would like to do if we win Eurovision. Luxembourg can do it, we are prepared to do it, and I think that it will be possible. But of course, at the end, it’s the government that will take that decision if they are willing to pay, or if they are not willing to pay, because RTL as broadcaster of course can’t do that alone […] but the discussions are very positive, let’s say.”

David was also able to confirm that Luxembourg’s future at Eurovision looks bright. There was no talk of taking any breaks or withdrawing, however a future internal selection might be on the table, if the conditions change:
“So we have to see how the applications for the next years will go if we have enough artists, if we have enough quality in our applications. So that will decide if we will be able to do a Song Contest in the next years or if we have to do some kind of an internal selection. We don’t want to do that because we like to do the Song Contest, we like to have the country with us on that journey, we like to have the country with us to decide. And we will see that in the next years, we hope that we can go on, but it will depend on the Luxembourgish music scene, how it develops and if we have enough talents to go on.”
