Emmy is a rising Norwegian singer-songwriter making waves in the Eurovision fandom and on her TikTok. Known for her infectious pop melodies and heartfelt lyrics, she recently won Ireland’s ‘Eurosong 2025’ with Laika Party, securing her place at Eurovision to represent the Emerald Isle. With a dynamic stage presence and an undeniable talent for storytelling, Emmy is poised for success this May in Basel!

In this episode, we chat with EMMY, a Norwegian-born singer who will represent Ireland in Eurovision 2025 with her song ‘Laika Party’. She discusses her unexpected win, the inspiration behind the song, and differences between national selections in Ireland and Norway. We also quiz her on Irish Eurovision history, talk about her TikTok presence, and discuss her glow-up plans for her performance in Basel.

Emmy had a one in six chance of winning Eurosong in Ireland, and genuinely believed she was not on a path to Eurovision this year:

“Oh, I was just so shocked. You know, I did not expect that. Like, we had booked flights back to Norway the day after. We did not expect that.”

Emmy’s winning performance of Laika Party at Eurosong 2025 in Ireland!

In the end, her song Laika Party finished first with the televote and Irish jury, a full 8 points ahead of Samantha Mumba who took second place. Emmy will now become part of Ireland’s impressive Eurovision history, something not lost on her:

“Ireland is the king of Eurovision, you know, with the most victories together with Sweden. And I’m just so, so, so honored that I got to be a part of that, their contest too.”

— Emmy Kristine Guttulsrud Kristiansen

Our Sebi described Laika Party as the biggest party song of the season, but with the saddest lyrics. This is because Laika was the dog sacrificed by the Soviet Union’s space program in 1957. She was the first animal to orbit Earth, used to test the effects of space flight at a time before humans had been to space. Emmy wanted to change the narrative about Laika’s sad story:

“So there was, like, this quiz that I do with my family, and there was a question about Laika, and that got me thinking about how incredibly sad her story is. I didn’t want that to be the truth, so I wanted to create a scenario where she doesn’t die, but where she lives on and is having her own party in the sky.”

Emmy will perform Laika Party somewhere in the first half of the Second Semi Final in Basel on Thursday, 15th May.
