In a surprising turn of events, Italian singer Olly has announced that he will not be representing Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The decision, which comes just days after his participation in Sanremo, has left many fans wondering about his future plans.
As per Sanremo 2025 rules, RAI asked the second place finisher at the Festival, which is Lucio Corsi, who expressed interest in going to Eurovision if Olly said no.
RAI, in an official statement, expressed gratitude to Olly for his contribution to the 75th edition of the Sanremo Festival and wished him a long and successful career.
The Italian broadcaster also congratulated Lucio Corsi on accepting the opportunity to represent Italy at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. This year’s event, held in Basel, will mark Italy’s 50th participation in the competition.
Taking to Instagram, Olly, whose real name is Federico Olivieri, shared a heartfelt message explaining his choice. The singer expressed that while Eurovision is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he feels the need to stay connected with his artistic journey and prioritize his upcoming tour.
I have been asking myself and others for days, and the answer is always the same: ‘In the end, you have to do what feels right. I don’t think you would be sad if I postponed concerts for Eurovision, but I strongly believe that I need to connect with everything happening around me before looking even further ahead.

Olly emphasized his love for live performances and his ongoing journey as an artist, stating that turning down Eurovision is his way of staying true to himself.
For me, this decision is my way of listening to myself and perhaps, in my own complicated way, saying thank you. Some might say I’m giving up on a dream, but I believe I’ve simply chosen to live it on my own terms.

His announcement comes as Italy prepares to finalize its Eurovision 2025 representative following Sanremo. Olly’s withdrawal means that broadcaster RAI will now need to select a new artist for the contest.
While some fans expressed disappointment, many have praised Olly for staying true to his artistic vision. “I respect his choice so much,” one fan commented. “It takes courage to step back from such a huge opportunity and focus on what feels right.”
In his statement, Olly also extended his support to whoever will take his place, expressing confidence in the strength of Italian music.
I send my best wishes to whoever will go in my place: the Italian music scene is full of extraordinary artists, and this year’s lineup proves it.
