Could Sissal be the one to finally bring Denmark back to the Eurovision Grand Final?
Hailing from the Faroe Islands, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix newcomer Sissal is the frontrunner to win with her electrifying song Hallucination. Behind the powerhouse vocals and high-energy beats lies a story of perseverance, passion, and a dream that started long before she stepped onto the DMGP stage.
Sissal will compete against seven other artists for the DMGP win. Her song Hallucination was given spot 7 in the running order and was written by an all-star team of writers, including Chris Rohde-Frisk, Lina Spangsberg, Linnea Deb (‘Heroes’, Sweden 2015), Malthe Johansen, Marcus Winther-John, and Melanie Wehbe (‘Sand’, Denmark 2024).
Sissal is new to the Danish music industry, something she touched on during her chat with Sebi:
“I feel very lucky and blessed to have gotten through this fast in the Danish industry, because I know a lot of people struggle a lot just to get through to a management or a label.”
— Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen (Sissal)
With just under one week to go until the live DMGP final, Sissal remains firmly in the lead with the bookmakers to win and represent Denmark at Eurovision 2025, and it’s something that Sissal is paying attention to:
“It definitely somehow puts pressure on me in that way that I feel like it’s a bigger downfall if I lose. If I was in the odds of being number four, if I won, that would be a huge win. But now if I lose, it will feel like a bigger loss.”
— Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen (Sissal)
Sissal is unique in the DMGP 2025 line-up as she is the only artist from the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark located some 1,300 km from Copenhagen – that’s about the same distance as driving from Paris to Bratislava! Here is how she feels about being Faroese but representing Denmark in Basel:
“I don’t feel like I am not representing Denmark, I feel like I’m definitely representing Denmark, and then with Faroese roots as well.”
— Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen (Sissal)
