In our final Melodifestivalen episode of the season, we’re thrilled to welcome fan-favourites SCARLET to the Building Brides podcast!
After an inexplicable early exit in Melodifestivalen 2024 with Circus X, SCARLET are back, this time with their new entry Sweet n’ Psycho.
They will close the fifth and final Heat. Broadcaster SVT often save the best for last, we will see soon if they have done so again in 2025.
SCARLET gave us a unique look into how Sweet n’ Psycho was created:
“We were five people in a room with mostly the same skill sets, but also different skill sets. And we wrote with people that usually do Melodifestivalen songs, and one metal head as well. And I think that was the key ingredient […], to have those two worlds collide, and to just bring the best pieces from each world and make something that’s Scarlet from that.”

When asked about the progression from Circus X to Sweet n’ Psycho, they had this to say:
“We took the best pieces from ‘Circus X’ and put it in this song. I would say it’s more ‘the core’ Scarlet. It’s heavier, more intense, and has more choreography. Because it’s hard, you know, when you come from the metal scene and you go into this platform. Like, ‘What will people like?’ We loved ‘Circus X’, but it wasn’t as hard and heavy as we usually do. This is a little more in your face, even more us.”

Before letting SCARLET run off to more rehearsals, we spoke about what winning Eurovision would mean, and the fan support over the last year:
“To be able to to represent Sweden when you look like this and you have a song that is not a ‘fit the mold’ kind of song, it’s a victory for multiple reasons. […] It’s about showing that it’s okay to stand out and be different.” […] The love that we got from Europe, and the Eurovision fans over there, it was almost a bit overwhelming. We didn’t expect that. So hopefully we are able to meet them in person [in May].”
