As we inch closer to Eurovision 2025, we are elated to bring you our latest Building Bridges interview. This time we sat down with Australia’s very own Go-Jo, who is ready to shake things up in Basel with his entry, Milkshake Man.
The singer-songwriter from Down Under first burst onto the scene with his vibrant, genre-blending sound, and now he’s taking that energy to the world’s biggest stage. But how did Milkshake Man come to life? And what can we expect when he steps onto the Eurovision stage in May?
Go-Jo’s Eurovision journey started with a chance connection. Back in 2022, he met Sheppard—the band behind On My Way from Australia Decides 2019—at a music awards night. Little did he know, they were on the same label.
“When I found out I was doing Eurovision, I was put on a writing camp with them. It was just the funnest time ever. We ended up writing ten songs together.”
— Go-Jo
So why Milkshake Man?
“The production felt really diverse—it was like a journey. And the concept of the song just felt right. Milkshake Man is all about embracing confidence and being your true self. That’s something I’ve always wanted to speak about in my music.”
— Go-Jo
With lyrics like “Drink it every day and before you know it, you’ll be bigger, stronger, harder,” some fans have started speculating about whether there’s a deeper (or cheekier) meaning behind the song:
“I love that people can take different meanings from it. That’s the beautiful thing about music. You can always find different interpretations—and that’s what makes it fun.”
— Go-Jo
The track itself draws inspiration from childhood nostalgia:
“As a kid, when you saw the ice cream truck coming down the street, it was just pure excitement. It was colorful, vibrant, and fun—just like how I want Milkshake Man to feel.”
— Go-Jo
Go-Jo is keeping details about his Eurovision staging tightly under wraps, but when we asked if he was able to bring his vision to life, he had a big grin on his face.
“I really want to keep this a surprise, but all I’ll say is… I love keeping people on the edge of their seat.”
— Go-Jo
While Australia’s distance makes attending every pre-party a challenge, he reassured us that fans will be getting plenty of surprises along the way.
“Keep an eye on my socials—I’ll be sharing everything there.”
— Go-Jo
As Australia marks its 10th anniversary at Eurovision, Go-Jo has already received some wisdom from past contestants. Voyager’s Danny Estrin reached out for a FaceTime chat, giving him key advice for the months ahead.
“He just told me to stay grounded in the chaos. Eurovision can be a whirlwind, so it’s important to keep yourself balanced.”
— Go-Jo
It’s advice Go-Jo is taking to heart:
“We’re all human at the end of the day, and we all have our limits. You have to find ways to keep yourself centered.”
— Go-Jo
Before we let him go, we had to ask: Will we get a live version of Milkshake Man before Basel?
“I love experimenting with different versions of songs, so that’s something we’re working on. Watch this space.”
— Go-Jo
As the interview wrapped up, Go-Jo shared his final thoughts for fans following his Eurovision journey:
“I just hope you have fun with this song. Milkshake Man is all about feeling loud, proud, and confident. If you ever need a boost, just channel that energy.”
— Go-Jo
With Milkshake Man set to bring the party to Eurovision 2025, we can’t wait to see what Go-Jo has in store.
