The 69th Eurovision Song Contest ended in the earliest hours of Sunday morning and JJ from Austria managed to win the competition with his dramatic pop opera song “Wasted Love”.
This marks Austria’s third victory in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest and just moments after the winner’s announcement, the Austrian broadcaster ORF accepted the offer to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Austria.
Interestingly, this will be the second time that Austria gets the honour of hosting an anniversary competition as the 60th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Vienna in 2015.
On the day of the first semi-final, ORF broadcasted an interview with our three hosts from 2015, Arabella Kiesbauer, Mirjam Weichselbraun and Alice Tumler to take a look back at the 10 year anniversary of their hosting in Vienna. The interviewer and long term ORF commentator Andi Knoll also asked them if they were willing to host the Eurovision Song Contest again, if JJ won this year. The three ladies did not hesitate and answered that they would do it again in a heartbeat.
However, Mirjam Weichselbraun added that she believes Andi Knoll, who has commentated the Eurovision Song Contest for Austria since the 1990s, should get his turn to host this time but that she would love to join him on that. If you want to catch up on the full interview, you can do so on ORF ON or in the linked YouTube upload.
Furthermore, Eurovision winner JJ has expressed his wish to host the next Eurovision Song Contest, alongside his fellow winner and close friend Conchita Wurst. Tom Neuwirth aka Conchita would therefore also reprise their role as a Eurovision host. Other professional television hosts who have a strong connection to the Eurovision Song Contest and might be in the running to host the contest are Kati Bellwoitsch (Host of the Allocation Draw and Opening Ceremony in 2015) or Philipp Hansa (Austrian spokesperson since 2021).
Whether one of these names will actually get to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest is yet to be decided by ORF. An official reveal of hosts is not to be expected within th
